Heroux Potager
‘hɜru pɔ.ta.ʒe
What the heck is Heroux Potager? Well a potager is French for Kitchen Garden. Heroux is the name of the dead end street the homestead is on, and so we have Heroux Potager.
We are more than just a kitchen garden, of course, but the kitchen (and my stomach) was really what has dictated what we keep and grow.
What we have: Bees, ducks, and a little over an acre of land.
What we're planning: A 800+ sqft garden, meat rabbit setup and a few espaliered fruit trees.
What we'd have if Michaela had her way: A few pygmy goats and maybe an Alpaca for fiber.
Where we are: We're located in Northern Rhode Island, an area that saw a large influx of French - Canadian immigrants starting back in the mid-19th century. A population which in nearby Woonsocket is still the largest ethnic population in the city.
Heroux Potager is a member of the Livestock Conservancy, and is committed to the preservation of heritage breeds.
